First of all, if you watched the video, I find it hard to believe that you come to the conclusion that he has “no idea of how centrally acting drugs work.” Second of all, it’s ironic that you would say to trust big pharma and that there is no magical cure-all drug in the same sentence. On the same note, if you’re going to be bashing the use of psychotropic drugs because of all the horrible side effects that might go along with them, that’s ironic in the light of your promotion of big pharma, too. Again on the same note, if you have a problem with people telling others about a magic potion that will fix all of their problems, that’s ironic, too. Going further, CAPS LOCK AND CURSING DON’T MAKE YOUR FLIMSY POINT ANY MORE CONVINCING, THEY JUST MAKE YOU LOOK STUPID AND MAKE IT VERY OBVIOUS THAT YOUR REAL OBJECTION TO THE TALK IS PROBABLY AN EMOTIONAL ONE GROUNDED IN SOME STUPID NOTION THAT PROMOTING ANY DRUG THAT DOESN’T MAKE BILLIONS FOR MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS IS SOMEHOW MORALLY WRONG. Drugs are bad, m’kay? As you so eloquently put it, fuck off.

I never said that I ‘trust’ big pharmaceutical companies, I said that medicine should be left to the medical professionals. A medical professional will never tell you that a prescribed medication will fix all of your problems because there is no substance like that in existence. The products produced by big pharmaceutical companies are scrutinized and tested for efficacy and safety. The problem with recreational and alternative medicines (like Ayahuasca) is that there is simply no control over the product. The fact that you vomit and shit yourself after taking Ayahuasca doesn’t mean you are being cleansed, it means that you have ingested a toxic substance.
Also, if you think that people don’t make a hefty profit off Ayahuasca, then you are very naive. Tours are organised to take people to these Ayahuasca spiritual ceremonies, and I can assure you that they are not free.
What I think is wrong is for someone in the public eye to be promoting something that has known detrimental effects. If Ben Lee was promoting cigarettes then I would have felt the same level of anger towards him. It is fine for anybody to experience whatever they want, but to then promote it when really you know very little about it then I think you’re potentially going to harm people.
p.s. it upsets me that you took time out from your day to so aggressively reply to something that I wrote on my personal blog that reflects my personal opinion.

Just finished writing my letter of application and have finally sent it off with my CV to the hospital I’m applying at for my intern year. This is all very anxiety inducing and the interview is next week so I’m freaking out. I wish it was all over already and I just knew my fate. WAH. Someone tell me it’s going to be okay….
